A Divine Relief

Angelina-Maria Montejo

There is a divine relief
a breath exhaling
a flock of starlings
out of your lungs
murmuring in a spiral
from your mouth
a dark smudge in the sky
on a sunny day
disappearing forever
into the western horizon.
It is unlike any other form
of happiness:
what comes from reading the obituary
of someone who tried to ruin you
and failed.
