A Spell to Banish Pain from Your Body

Catherine Garbinsky

I will hold the bag of saline, I will dress your wounds
At night when you cannot sleep, let my body pull the pain from you
Let me be the poultice to draw it out
I will throw it onto the hot pavement
like a ripe pomegranate, let it break into tiny pieces
and I will gather them up and eat them
one by one
