How to Silence a Lark

Jessica Sabo

Stark white teeth
and sun-speckled skin; my flesh
pulling into you like wet sand.
The agony of our nightmare; bitters
in my mouth as
I remember the emptiness
of waking in your arms;
the grief of it all.
