On the Possibility of Betelgeuse Going Supernova

Oh Orion, what will become of you
when that shield on your shoulder flames out?
We can’t afford another fallen hero
in these dark times.

When that shield on your shoulder flames out
Canicula will be masterless.
In these dark times
silence will echo, thunderous, in the night sky.

Canicula will be masterless;
who will wake us to the next disaster?
Silence will echo, thunderous, in the night sky.
Our ears stoppered, our eyes will weep.

Who will wake us to the next disaster?
We can’t afford another fallen hero.
Our ears stoppered, our eyes will weep.
Oh Orion, what will become of you?
