Possession

Ann V. DeVilbiss

Rise in me a blue dawn.
Let it glide through
my hands, guide them
to better light.
Craft me a lantern
of broken anger,
whisped wills.
The air here is
thick with souls
and I am hungry.
Bring me a fresh
yearling, weak one
with trembled feet.
I want to smell
his tender flank
before I let him go.
