KB Ballentine
A rip in the clouds, thunder swallowed
by lightning, and the rain breaks,
muscles its way to the ground.
Winds its way through rocks
to the river’s crooked banks.
A fox barks from its burrow
and the air – the air suspends
in gray, fog and mist anchoring
the fields, masking the mountain tops
and shifting everything close – closer.
