Winter Poems: 5

Haley Wooning

night like a crow

settling her dark garments

my heart is a black rain

of feathers, I inherit nothing but

this heather, time’s hewn-wing

and the death-smell

of stars, yellow in the heavens

too far, too far

to know memory by

somewhere, love’s fool weeps

alone – I know that sound, have

faded among those tresses but

I am none the wiser
